Helping Florida Families Recover From Property Disasters
We have families too. We understand your situation. That’s why we prioritize getting your home and business back to normal.
Jorge Luis Montero is a Florida property damage at Florida Advocates in Dania Beach. With more than 24 years of experience in insurance litigation, Jorge helps homeowners and business owners get the compensation they deserve when insurance companies delay, deny, or underpay their claims.
Has your insurance claim been delayed, denied, or underpaid? You’re not alone. Insurance companies often rely on policyholders not knowing their rights. Jorge has spent his career on both sides of insurance litigation—and now he uses that knowledge to advocate for you.
From Cuba to South Florida: A Story of Perseverance
Jorge was born in Havana, Cuba and migrated to the United States in May 1980 at the age of four, along with his entire immediate family, during the historic Mariel boatlift. That journey—and the perseverance it took for his family to build a new life in America—shaped who Jorge is today.
He understands what it means to work hard, to overcome obstacles, and to protect your family and your home. When insurance companies try to take advantage of Florida homeowners, Jorge vigilantly reminds them of your rights and their responsibilities.

Significant recoveries for homeowners or businesses?
I represented a Florida homeowner who had hired a professional roofer to install a new metal roof. After completion of the roof installation, the homeowner noticed that the installation was substandard and that he had been taken advantage of. Our office was able to secure a full recovery and today this homeowner has a new metal roofing system free of defects.
Our office represented a local professional law firm that incurred damage as a result of water intrusion from substandard work performed by the general contractor, subcontractors, the buildings management company to name a few. Our clients recovered sufficient funds to cover not only the cost of repair, but also the costs associated to having to relocate during repairs and for business interruption as a result.
Our office represented an homeowner who lost their home as a result of a wildfire. Although this home had no homeowners insurance our office was able to hire experts to track down the source of the wildfire and recover enough for this client to rebuild.
☐ Cases where you overcame a denial or significant underpayment?
Our office was able to settle a matter of hidden water and mold damage resulting from a named Hurricane that was not discovered until well over a year. The client who was completely denied coverage at first is now able to recover the cost of repair and live mold free.
Hurricane, water damage, or fire damage victories?
Our office was able to recover damages for homeowners from a condo association’s failure to properly maintain a roofing system and addressed defamatory issues between a condo board member and our clients in full resolution of the case.
Our office was able to resolve a water leak issue for a newly wed couple from an insurance company that undervalued their claim and from a condo association’s failure to properly maintain a roofing system.
Cases where you held an insurer accountable for bad faith?
Our office frequently files civil remedy notices in our property cases and in turn this holds insurance companies accountable for their bad faith actions in failing to properly adjust claims and pay out in accordance with the policy.
Why Jorge Became an Advocate for Families
⚠️ JORGE TO PROVIDE: Share why you became a lawyer and what drives your work. Consider:
☐ What motivated you to pursue law? My parents were the driving factor for betterment, they believed that the best gift they could give their children was a good education. All three of my brothers went into dentistry, however I never had a calling for that profession. Instead I enjoyed reading, writing and was drawn to the English language. As a young immigrant I learned English by watching tv shows like “Nightcourt” and “Cheers” and oddly enough these early influences drew me to eventually working in law and language. Essentially my favorite subject in law-school was contracts. I am fascinated by the construction, the interpretation and the enforcement of a contract as a necessary staple to our society.
Why did you switch from insurance defense to representing families? As an attorney we are trained to represent either side. In truth I’ve always sought to shed light on issues of justice and when I worked for insurance companies I strived to enforce the contract, which included fighting fraud and a strict interpretation of contractual language. When I switched to representing the insured I applied the same logic. However with the advantage of having represented insurance companies for so many years, I know when and how to push for the enforcement of your contractual rights. I fight to keep insurance companies accountable to the agreement they entered into with you and your family. I still seek to strictly enforce the contract, only now I apply the advantages you have as an insured.
Does your family’s immigration story influence your work? Everyday. I am not the product of nepotism, I have worked for my degree, experience and knowledge. However it wasn’t until I became a homeowner myself that I fully came to understand that it is not only a place for housing of our privacy rights but also an investment and nest egg for our collective family. For most immigrant families who are fleeing persecution or seek financial stability a home in America is the cornerstone of their accomplishments and their personal sanctuary. This is why it is such an injustice, when your home is damaged by storm, an unexpected accident, or any other calamity and the insurance company you compensated to properly address these matters reneges on the agreement.
☐ What do you find most rewarding about helping homeowners? Giving homeowners hope that the contract they invested in to pull them through tough times was a sound investment and not just an unfulfilled promise. An insurance contract should always be an investment in you and your goals and not mere profit for insurance companies.
Outside the Office
⚠️ JORGE TO PROVIDE: Personal details help clients connect with you. Please share:
Family details (if comfortable sharing) Up through my highschool graduation my family and I resided in Hialeah. Although offered to go study in other states, I chose to stay close and completed my undergraduate degree in Florida International University and my law degree at the University of Miami School of Law.
How long have you lived in South Florida? I have resided in South Florida for most of my life. I grew up taking summer vacations in the Sunny Isles back when those family friendly hotels had kitchens in every room. We vacationed as a family and that it was economically sound to make large meals instead of spending money in restaurants. I remember running in Crandon Park amongst the pine trees before Hurricane Andrew did away with them. In my teenage years I remember the excitement of slowly cruising my car through Coconut Grove and Ocean Drive. Whenever possible I like to go camping and salt water fishing.
Hobbies and interests
I currently collect LPs, I am an avid spotify user with an eclectic music taste. Most weekends you will find me gardening and trying to figure out how many variety of mangoes, vegetables and other plants I can grow in the Florida heat. When the weather allows I try and bike to neighborhood cafes or nature parks.
